On Monday, December 13, 2010 from 12:15 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. at The Akron Urban League, 440 Vernon Odom Blvd, Heart to Heart Communications will be hosting Faith and Spirituality in Counseling: What’s ethical, appropriate and effective?

This workshop qualifies as three CEU credits for mental health professionals.

Course Objectives

Describe why paying attention to a client’s spirituality is legal, ethical and effective.

Understand what skills and competencies are needed to address a clien’t spiritual needs.

Know how to assess a client’s internal vs external spiritual belief system as a life-management mechanism.

Understand the ethics of exploring a client’s spiritual beliefs as an adjunct to therapeutic leverage.

Describe ethical ways to appreciate and gain greater understanding of a client’s spirituality as a way of respecting the diversity of the client.

Describe the competencies required to work with a client’s values and belief system in an ethical manner.

Describe the value and goals of a well-defined and practiced spirituality.

Discover specific questions to help a client discover and define their own ethic, worldview and spirituality.
